Presidential Inauguration: Obama Congratulates Buhari

The President of the United States, Barrack Obama congratulated the newly sworn-in President Muhammadu Buhari, who now by the completion of the swearing-in ceremony would no longer be addressed as President-elect but as the President and Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces of Nigeria.

Obama's congratulatory message was contained in a press statement in which he also promised to strenghten ties with the Nigerian government for healthier relationship.

Barack Obama said further that the government of the United States is committed to continue to build on the US-Nigeria relationship the commencement of which dates back to year 2010, he emphasized that efforts to ensure that Nigeria continue to exist as one should not dwindle at this time.

The immediate past president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, was not left out of the warm compliments as Obama also praised him for his large heart during the preparation as well as the conduct of the 2015 presidential election which he gallantly lost to Buhari.

With specific reference to the maturity displayed by Jonathan during the announcement of the March 28 presidential election, an act described by many including Muhammadu Buhari, as a gesture of true statesmanship, Obama commended the aversion of post election political crisis in Nigeria.
